For the 2026 release in the Royal Australian Mint's celebrated Kangaroo Series, the familiar Mob of Five has become a Mob of Six.

The addition of a sixth kangaroo commemorates six decades of decimal currency, honouring a design that has become synonymous with Australia's numismatic heritage.

Kangaroos have occupied a special place on Australian coinage for more than a century. They first appeared alongside the emu in the Australian Coat of Arms on Australia's pre-decimal silver coinage, before a leaping kangaroo was introduced to the penny in 1938 and the halfpenny in 1939.

Following decimalisation in 1966, the kangaroo continued its place on Australian currency, culminating in Stuart Devlin's iconic Mob of Five design for the one-dollar coin introduced in 1984. This special 2026 release adds a sixth kangaroo to Devlin's enduring design, representing the sixth decade of Australian decimal currency.
